Annual Mayfly Competition for the Odbert Cup


Fixture Date Saturday 5h May 2012.
Times: Saturday 10am - 8pm.
Departure from Doon Shore Lough Key.
Club Members only Competition.

Next Saturday sees club members fishing for the Odbert Cup.
Weigh Masters to be confirmed closer to the event, & each person fishing can ring weigh master to weigh any fish caught. Mobile numbers will be provided on the day.
Boat fishing only & fish must be alive in order to be weighed. Hence competitors must ensure they have fish tank etc.
The Presentation will take place in Dodds Bar Boyle at 9:30pm Saturday.

Very enjoyable days fishing with some great fish caught.

A few club members enjoyed a great day out fly fishing for pike last Sunday morning. The weather was good with just a few light showers. I got a chance to record one of the pike been played.

Easter Pike Competition - Day 2 - Winners and losers


Hi Folks

Below is details of the winners and losers from our 2 Day Pike Competitions. Many thanks to all who took part, helped out, sponsored and attended this year's competition.


Junior Competition

The Juniors had a total of 12 entrants.

In Third place with a cheque for €50 with a fish weighing 4lb 10oz weighed at Bullock Island is Danny Funke from Boyle.

In Second Place with a cheque for €100 with a fish weighing 8lb even weighed at Bullock Island is Niall Diffley.

In First Place with a Shield sponsored by Boyle & District Angling Club plus €200 sponsored by Noel Daly with a fish weighed at Doon Shore, weighing 15lb 13oz is Ben Egan from Boyle.


Ladies Competition

There were 6 entrants in the Ladies competition.

In Third place with a cheque for €75 with a fish weighing 5lb 4oz weighed at Black Island is Lucy Egan from Boyle.

In Second Place with a cheque for €150 with a fish weighing 12lb 7oz weighed at Bullock Island is Danielle Hughes from Sligo.

In First Place with a piece of Crystal sponsored by Joe Simon Building Supplies and a cheque for €300 with a fish weighing 16lbs 8oz, weighed at Bullock Island is April Flanagan.


Club Members Prize

5 Nights B & B + Dinner for 1 Night for 2 people sponsored by The Mayfly Hotel in Foxford and a Genesis Bronze statue sponsored by Moonstone Jewellers is with a fish weighing 15lb 12oz weighed at Bullock Island is Brendan Sharkey from Boyle.


MAIN PRIZES

There were a total of 155 Anglers this weekend.

In Third place with a cheque for €1,250 is, with a fish weighing 19lb 5oz weighed at Doon Shore on Sunday is Anthony Scally from Mullingar.

In Second place with a cheque for €2,000 is, with a fish weighing 19lb 9oz weighed at Doon Shore on Saturday is Joe McDermott from Longford.

And in first place with a cheque for €3,000 and The Moonstone Jewellers Perpetual Trophy and a Winners Jacket for 2012 with a fish weighing 20lb 15oz weighed at Doon Shore on Saturday is Michael Egan from Boyle.


Everyone is invited to the Wrap-Up Party in Wynne’s Pub, Main Street, Boyle tonight, Sunday 8th April.

Finally, for every winner, there has to be a loser and my good friends Liam Conroy and Stewart Connolly have kept up their quite amazing performances in this competition. Decked out in all their fishing regalia, our 2 little soldiers toiled against the elements for 2 long days. Sadly, nothing was to come of it and these brave little boys head home tired and weary with a heavy hearts (I could cry myself whilst writing this piece, such is the emotion of the occasion). In summary the total fish caught by our 2 little brave boys was a big fat zero. Better luck next year lads.

For poor Liam and Stewart, I would look away now. For everyone else, I have pictures of the winners over the weekend below.
