THE MICHAEL CONROY PERPETUAL MEMORIAL CUP.

On Sunday 17th of October the penultimate competition of the year took place on Lough Skeen Ballyfarnon. The was The MICHAEL CONROY PERPETUAL MEMORIAL CUP.
33 Anglers togged out for action on what turned out to be a fine day for fishing and they were not disappointed by the fishing. In total 37 fish were caught and released on the day.
The day got off to a flying start with debutant angler Deirdre Molloy catching her first ever fish 15 Min's into the competition a pike the weighed just under 3lbs, this was not the only one in that boat at that time as her fishing partner Declan Conroy weighted in a pike of 8lbs 30z to give him an early lead. Martin Suffin then followed with a fine fish of 7 lbs 3oz.There were a number of other fish weighed in in the next half hour but the next big one was brought in by Richard Connolly about 12 noon.

After quite a struggle to get him in Richard and his partner Gerry MC Glynn weighed in a great fish of 16lbs 4oz. The sight of this fish gave alot of anglers the hope that there was something big for them out there . In the first hour and a half of this competition there were 12 fish caught. as the day progressed there were a number of fish weighed in between 5, 6 and 7 lbs out by various competitors including the main players in the race for fisherman of the year, who were Tom Commins , Declan Conroy, Jim Clarke and Myles Quinn.

About half 2 the next big fish was weighed and this was caught by Jane Suffin. This was a great looking fish of 14lbs 3 oz and it put Jane into second place.

This fish was closely followed by another fine fish of 10lbs 7 oz caught by Micheal Egan which was good enough to earn him third place.
As persistent shower of rain around 3:45 that lasted a half hour slowed down thing but at the end of the competition a flurry of smaller fish ranging from 1lbs odd to 7 lbs odd were weighed withe the biggest of them weighted in by Eamon Conroy and Jim Clarke which brought the total of fish to 37.
Both juniors who fish on the Ben Egan and Joe Egan caught fish with Joe winning that category.
So the result was .
1st Richard Connolly 16lbs 4oz
2nd Jane Suffin 14lbs 3 oz
3rd Micheal Egan 10lbs 7oz.

COMMONS WINS AGAIN

On Sunday 3rd of October, Boyle & District Anglers fished for the Donnellan Cup on Lough Na Blaithe outside Elphin.
Weather conditions were perfect for the 21 competing anglers. Eighteen fish were caught and released on the day with most of the anglers adding to their total weights for the title of Angler Of The Year 2010.
Largest number of fish caught by one angler on the day was seven by Declan Conroy, the heaviest weighing in at 12lb 10oz and looking like a clear winner
until with half an hour to go to the end of the competition, Tom Commons and his boat partner, Joe Tormey, rang the weigh master with news of a good catch from the furthest end of the lake. Tom weighed in a cracking fish of 19lb 4oz for what was to be a personal best and worthy winner.
Joe, of course claimed responsibility for helping to land the fish as he said a calm head was required after a lengthy battle.
Tom is now in poll position on the leader board followed closely by Declan Conroy and Jim Clarke.
Jim, who won last months competition, finished in third place this time with two good fish, best of which weighed in at 5lb 1oz.

Presentation of prizes took place in the Moylurg Inn in Boyle on Sunday night and the club would like to thank Aaron and Kevin for their hospitality.
Our next outing will be on Sunday the 17th of October on Lough Skean near Ballyfarnon where We will compete for the Michael Conroy Perpetual Memorial cup. Fishing from 11am to 5pm.
This competition is open to all anglers, and with one competition remaining after the 17th, any one of the top ten anglers are still in with a chance of claiming the title for 2010.
