33 Anglers togged out for action on what turned out to be a fine day for fishing and they were not disappointed by the fishing. In total 37 fish were caught and released on the day.
The day got off to a flying start with debutant angler Deirdre Molloy catching her first ever fish 15 Min's into the competition a pike the weighed just under 3lbs, this was not the only one in that boat at that time as her fishing partner Declan Conroy weighted in a pike of 8lbs 30z to give him an early lead. Martin Suffin then followed with a fine fish of 7 lbs 3oz.There were a number of other fish weighed in in the next half hour but the next big one was brought in by Richard Connolly about 12 noon.
After quite a struggle to get him in Richard and his partner Gerry MC Glynn weighed in a great fish of 16lbs 4oz. The sight of this fish gave alot of anglers the hope that there was something big for them out there . In the first hour and a half of this competition there were 12 fish caught. as the day progressed there were a number of fish weighed in between 5, 6 and 7 lbs out by various competitors including the main players in the race for fisherman of the year, who were Tom Commins , Declan Conroy, Jim Clarke and Myles Quinn.
About half 2 the next big fish was weighed and this was caught by Jane Suffin. This was a great looking fish of 14lbs 3 oz and it put Jane into second place.
This fish was closely followed by another fine fish of 10lbs 7 oz caught by Micheal Egan which was good enough to earn him third place.
As persistent shower of rain around 3:45 that lasted a half hour slowed down thing but at the end of the competition a flurry of smaller fish ranging from 1lbs odd to 7 lbs odd were weighed withe the biggest of them weighted in by Eamon Conroy and Jim Clarke which brought the total of fish to 37.
Both juniors who fish on the Ben Egan and Joe Egan caught fish with Joe winning that category.
So the result was .
1st Richard Connolly 16lbs 4oz
2nd Jane Suffin 14lbs 3 oz
3rd Micheal Egan 10lbs 7oz.
